The
rain worsened overnight and I had visons of the River Barle bursting over the
walls of our camp; I have always been a bit of a dramatist. By the time we
crawled out, earlier than required, we found good old English drizzle, and it
persisted while we packed up.
We
were on the road before 10 am, heading south on the route we had arrived, the B3222
to Exbridge and on down the lovely Exe Valley, the river a raging torrent. We
turned east at Tiverton, soon joining the M5, the worsening rain and the
traffic; the trip north toward Bristol was absolutely hideous. We pulled into
the Gordano Service Centre, lined up in the truck park between dozens of rigs
who dwarfed us. We read the paper, lunched, then rang ahead to Julie who had
asked that we do so before our arrival.
We
followed the website directions which took us even further north on the M5,
joining the M4 which continues through to Bath and London, turning south on to
the Bristol Ring Road, the A4174, turning a little east onto the A431 and soon
arriving at our little Caravan & Camping Club site. Julie was here to meet us, and directed us
onto our site, a rather unlevel spot, a minor annoyance given we are such
sticklers for having our caravan / motorhome dead level for the preservation of
the workings of the gas fridge. We have spent the afternoon catching up with
email business matters, updating our internet plan (delighted to reach a series
of real people, albeit a random collection of Indians and Irish), and posting
the last week's travel accounts. We have six nights booked here, five days touring
and I am looking forward to every one. The rain has cleared, although to be
fair, the forecast is pretty awful; we will work with whatever we have.
